Summary
Hendy partnered with Foundation Academies during the 2025–26 school year to strengthen mathematics instruction in grades Kindergarten through third through the implementation of Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) and Number Stories. The work included designing and facilitating two days of summer professional development for teachers and leaders, conducting ongoing classroom observations and coaching visits throughout the year, and creating grade-level Number Stories scope and sequence materials. Through this partnership, Hendy supported both teachers and instructional leaders in developing the knowledge, skills, and systems necessary to deliver rigorous, engaging mathematics instruction focused on student thinking and problem-solving.
Outcomes
- Teachers and leaders developed a shared vision for high-quality mathematics instruction and increased their capacity to plan, facilitate, observe, and coach Number Stories lessons grounded in Cognitively Guided Instruction principles.
- Foundation Academies successfully implemented a coherent K–3 Number Stories approach supported by professional learning, classroom coaching, and grade-level curricular resources, creating stronger conditions for sustained improvement in mathematics instruction and student outcomes.
